Why Businesses Need A Blog

Have you noticed that some of the biggest businesses have blogs these days?

Disney Parks
Coca Cola
Apple
Netflix
Walmart

Just to name a few....

Why? Well, beside the advertising part, this is a great way to listen to what your consumers are saying. A blog makes you much more approachable and consumers more willing to talk to you. This makes you a person and not just a company.

Let's start at the beginning with, what exactly, is a blog?

In the simplest of terms, a blog is an interactive web log or website, that increases communication between people. It can be personal or business and most times, it is both.

As a blogger, I write to be creative, to journal my life so when my kids were older than could read it. I wrote for myself and for others. I love being able to read comments generated by a post I wrote. This is the same for companies, blogging gives you the opportunity to meet and greet the people who already do business with you or will hopefully, eventually do business with you.

Maintaining a blog takes work but it is well worth the effort.
  • Your blog should be updated daily.
  • There should be a way for people to subscribe or at least to be able to follow you so they can read your updates. Updates make you unforgettable, mostly because you never go away. In business, this is a good thing. You want people to remember you the next time they are about to part with their hard earned dollars.
  • Replying in a timely manner to any comments, gives you big points. People want to know they matter.
